Ancient History of IAOFG (2024) Independent Ancient Order of Free Gardeners

The Independent Ancient Order of Free Gardeners (IAOFG) traces its roots to the rich history of the Ancient Free Gardeners of Scotland. The parent jurisdiction, which has a documented history dating back to 1676, was originally an operative society for gardeners, providing mutual aid and support to its members and their families. Over time, it evolved into a fraternal and friendly society, expanding significantly in the 19th century before facing decline with the rise of the modern welfare state in the mid-20th century.

REVIVAL : AOFG in 2002

A revival of the Ancient Order of Free Gardeners began in 2002, leading to the establishment of several independent lodges. One of these was the Ayrshire Bluebell Lodge No. 7, instituted on November 20, 2003. This lodge in turn played a key role in the formation of the 'Rose and Bluebell Lodge' on August 24, 2019, in Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland. The Rose and Bluebell Lodge continued this lineage, instituting the 'Rose of England Lodge' in Surrey on the 29th of August, 2020, and Orange Blossom Lodge No. 3 on the 2nd of August, 2024. In September 2024, the 'Ancient Fleur De Lys Lodge' was consecrated, and on December 16, 2024, the Ancient Fleur De Lys Lodge, under the Ancient Free Gardeners of Scotland, instituted the Royale Ancient Fleur De Lys Lodge No. 1 in Taguig City, Philippines. under the Sovereign Grand Lodge of the Independent Ancient Order of Free Gardeners, well known as the IAOFG.

Ancient Fleur De Lys Lodge

It was from the lineage of the Ancient Fleur De Lys Lodge, the Ancient Free Gardeners of Scotland, that the Independent Ancient Order of Free Gardeners was born through the guidance of RW Simon P. The IAOFG founders, WM Rupert Corpuz, WB Ryan Ramos, WB Manuel Rodriguez II, and WB Ferdinand Tablac, were all members of the Ancient Fleur De Lys Lodge, the Ancient Free Gardeners of Scotland

They sought to create a new, independent lodge that would carry on the traditions and principles of the Free Gardeners. With the support and permission of the Ancient Order of Free Gardeners in Scotland, they were able to form this new, independent lodge, creating a new branch of the Free Gardeners tradition that continues the legacy of fellowship, mutual support, and the cultivation of both character and community.

The IAOFG has a strong and expanding presence in the Philippines, with multiple lodges founded in recent years.
